A 60 minute recital in partial fulfillment of the M.M. Degree in Voice Performance at CCPA, Roosevelt University. Includes selections by Handel, Faure, Libby Larsen, Duparc, R. Strauss, and W. A. Mozart.
The title “On Joy and Sorrow” references the poem of the same name by Khalil Gibran, in which he expresses that it is impossible to know true joy without sorrow, and vice versa; they must always go together. While programming this recital, I hoped to create a journey in which , after wandering through themes of sorrow and suffering, the experience of exuberant joy expressed by Mozart’s Exsultate, jubilate is felt all the more authentically.
